RM of Big Stick’s story
The Rural Municipality of Big Stick No. 141 sits in the southwest part of Saskatchewan. It was incorporated as a rural municipality on December 11, 1911.
Its name comes from Bigstick Lake, an alkali lake within its boundaries. The lake was named for the Big Stick Trail, which ran between Maple Creek and the South Saskatchewan River and was notable for a large, solitary tree along its route.
A Big Stick Lake post office operated in the RM from 1911 to 1925. Today the village of Golden Prairie lies within the municipality, and the RM's office is located there.
